Camera

In this step we will mount the Raspberry Pi camera.

Required Parts:

  • 2x 6mm M2 Screws (these are slightly larger diameter than screws used up until now)

  • 2x M2 ('larger') Nuts

  • 2x Nylon Washers

  • 1x Camera Module

Remove the ribbon cable included with the camera module. To disconnect the cable, slide the black frame plastic away from the connector. It will move a couple millimeters and release pressure on the ribbon cable. The cable should then slide out freely.

Feed the long ribbon cable (the one already connected to the Raspberry Pi board) under the tilt head and connect it to the camera module. Take note of which side the blue stripe is on. It should be on the side opposite the camera lense. Insert it into the connector and slide the black locking frame back into place. This should secure the ribbon cable so it does not easily pull out.

The cable and camera should look like this when allowed to move freely.

This is how the cable should look from the side. Notice how it is routed. We suggest routing the ribbon cable so it goes UNDER the cables to the ultrasonic rangefinder and the LED board.

Mount the camera module the the upper metal frame of the pan / tilt head.

  1. Study the image above. Make a fold in the ribbon cable as shown. Bend it just above the blue strip.

  2. Attach with the screw pattern shown. Notice the nylon washer is placed between the camera module and the metal frame. It is suggested to start the screw, washer, and nut on one side, then slide it into the opening. Loosely tighten one side to secure the module, then install the screw, washer, and nut on the opposite side. Finish by fully tightening both screws.
