Wings

In this step we will construct and install the wings.

Required Parts:

  • 8x M1.4 6mm Screws

  • 8x M1.4 ('small') Nuts

  • 2x Wing LED Boards (left and right)

  • 2x Plastic Wings (left and right)

  • 2x Short Wire Connector Cable - Approx 2.75" / 70mm

Connect the cables to the LED boards.

Attach the LED board to each wing. Before adding the LED board, insert the cable through the hole in the plastic wing. Attach each LED board with two screws. Use the front and rear screw holes. You do not need to use a screw in the center hole, the front and back screws are okay to hold the board.

Install the wing on the Right side first. Connect the cable to the main board first.

Connect the wing at the rear mount first, then connect the front mount. As you connect the front mount, fit the wires into the cutout on the side of the wing.

Before attaching the left side wing, feed the Tilt servo cable and the cable for the Ultrasonic Rangefinder behind the spacer connecting the upper and lower frame plates.

Connect the cables for the Ultrasonic Rangefinder and Tilt servo to the header on the bottom of the Spirit Main Board.

Important Note:

  • Take special note of the direction the Ultrasonic Rangefinder cable is connected. The blue wire should connect to the pin labeled 5v+ on the circuit board. If this cable is backward, damage may occur later when we connect the rangefinder.

  • Be sure the servo is connected the correct direction as well. The orange wire should connect to the pin labeled "SIG" on the circuit board.

Attach the left side wing the same as the right side. Attach the rear mount first, then the front mount. Fit the wires into the cutout on the side of the wing.

Look under the wing and carefully arrange the wires so they remain clear of the HDMI port on the side of the Raspberry Pi.
